Sarah Cox is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC). She specializes in providing medication, education, and supportive counseling for people living with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD. She especially enjoys helping people through life transitions, helping young people develop a vision for their future, and helping those who are struggling in school, work, or parenting due to ADHD. She prefers to view medication as one tool in a holistic treatment plan that includes establishing healthy life habits and engaging in psychotherapy as needed.
For the past four years, Sarah has provided psychiatric care at a nonprofit clinic in the Asheville area, and prior to that she worked for five years as a registered nurse in emergency room and inpatient psychiatric settings. She now lives in Durham with her family and three dogs, and enjoys making art, exploring local trails, restaurants, and kayaking spots, and attending art events. Sarah is actively anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and body-positive. Education: Vanderbilt University: Master’s in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, 2018 Oregon Health and Science University: Bachelors of Science in Nursing, 2013 Elon University: Bachelors in English and Art, 2008 Initial intake appointments with Sarah are always conducted in person. She does not prescribe benzodiazepines (alprazolam, clonazepam, lorazepam, etc.). Controlled substances for insomnia are limited to short-term use, if prescribed at all.
